bright spots in the day

1.31.2012

I simply can't get enough of these ranunculi. They are the perfect "punch" of color to instantly brighten any day.

mignon kitchen co.

I got a really fun package in the mail yesterday from a new online store Mignon Kitchen Co.  This store is run by the lovely lady of the blog ElephantineI'm excited for this new shop & can already tell I will be a faithful customer.

sunday afternoon spread

1.30.2012

On Saturday I took a trip to the Dekalb Farmer's Market.  I went with intentions to browse the vast selection of produce, flowers, & meat to garner ideas for future shoots. I left with a stash of goodies.  On Sunday, this honey, loaf of bread, and ranunculi became the subjects of my work.  They are a real feast for the eyes.

honey in a mason jar

1.29.2012

I love honey & I love mason jars.  Put the two together and you've got a pretty sweet combo.

beauty on the side

1.27.2012

Went to the High Museum of Art yesterday to see the Picasso to Warhol exhibit.  It was a great collection of work by some very daring (for their time) artists.  As I was walking back to my car, these dead vines caught my attention.  They looked so fragile & cold--beauty is everywhere.

latte bowls & spices

1.26.2012

Anthropologie's latte bowls are one of my weaknesses.  It seems like with the coming of every season there comes a new saturated hue. The newest colors include these brilliant blues. I felt compelled to shoot something with these bowls and decided on messing around with some spices.

wilted flowers

These flowers are just as beautiful wilting as they are thriving in my windowsill.

leafy greens

1.25.2012

I couldn't resist snapping a quick photo of the leafy green tops from the beets that I've had laying around. Their texture is so nice and crinkly.

the perfect sandwich

1.23.2012

The past couple of days I've been eating what I consider the perfect sandwich.  All I really need for that is the perfect, freshly baked bread.  The simplest meals are often the best.

chocolate chip cookies

1.20.2012

The chocolate chip cookies. Always best to eat straight out of the oven and with a glass of cold milk.

brown sugar

I love how brown sugar is so compact, beautifully granulated & the perfect shade of brown.

baked cookies

1.18.2012

Yesterday was another cloudy & dreary day. I decided I would bake cookies for the second time this month (which is not typical), but this time, I made a whole photo shoot out of it.  It was a good time and as usual, the end result was very delicious.

empty plate

1.17.2012

Nothing like an empty plate for some dreaming and scheming.

broken beet

1.16.2012

Still exploring golden beets.  They look so beautiful in the right light and when you cut into them, they are exactly as they are named: golden.

new year's day cookies

1.13.2012

My first day of 2012 was low key.  It was a quiet and chilly Sunday that had me thinking about the warmth of a kitchen, so baking chocolate chip cookies seemed only natural.

turnips

1.12.2012

Turnips are a very strange root.  Pastel & beautiful. Large & plentiful.

golden beets

1.11.2012

Golden beets are such a vibrant vegetable.  I truly had no idea how interesting they were until I pulled my camera out and started documenting their funny little roots.

asparagus

1.02.2012

Asparagus getting ready to get popped into the oven for a delicious Christmas dinner side.
